May God Bless You...

I blogged last year about grumpiness around Christmas time. The funniest thing is when christians get grumpy about people not having joy or knowing the true meaning of Christmas. "Damn you!", as lapels are grabbed and shaking occurs, "Have some joy!"

I have seen the prayer below quoted as a Franciscan travel blessing. I'm not sure of its origin but I noticed a comment after it that said something like "If christians were like this, maybe I'd go back to being involved with them." Hope. Joy. Foolishness. Anger at injustice instead of people not understanding us. Why not? Oh and pass me one of those cookies shaped like a Christmas tree...fa la la la la...

May God bless you with discomfort at easy answers,
half truths and superficial relationships
so that you may live deep within your heart.

May God bless you with anger at injustice,
oppression, and exploitation of people,
so that you may wish for justice, freedom, and peace.

May God bless you with enough foolishness
to believe that you can make a difference in this world,
so that you can do what others claim cannot be done.
